Presented for your consideration, a beautiful oversized religious locket medalion.
The oval shaped double frame and hanging rings are made in vermeil, so, gold over sterling silver (profesionally acid tested). Both sides of the medalion are hinged and also have two tabs to ease being opened (see pictures, please). Inside the medalion there is an oval shaped ivory plate over which there is a handpainting of Virgin Mary putting a lily wreath on the head of a reverent woman who is also dressed with a white tunic. As it is well known, lily flower is one of the most associated symbols with Virgin Mary, also meaning purity, innocence, charity (caring for others) and piety.
The other side of the medalion is decorated with two burning hearts surrounded by a golden sun and two bunches of lily flowers. Please refer to the pictures.
Both sides of the medalion are protected by crystal (the crystal protecting the side depicting standing Virgin Mary has an almost unnoticeable small chip at its top, near the frame.
MEASURES: 75 X 61mm approx, Not including hanging rings.
ESTIMATED AGE: 1860-1880
